Wanderers begin preseason

On a lovely sunny afternoon at the Memorial Ground the Wanderers entertained a strong Ystrad Rhondda side to get their pre-season campaign under way. With lots of new faces on show and plenty of new combinations the rustiness was clear to see. Most commonly heard phrase from the Wanderers faithful was “What’s his name?”

“We got a good look at some new players. There were some impressive individual performances” commented Rugby Director Tony Murphy

Head coach Paul Matthews added “A good oppurtunity to dust off the cobwebs, small glimpses of what we are capable of in open play. With more Premiership opposition in the shape of Llangennech here next week it gives us another oppurtunity to build and improve”

Over 4  20 minute periods Ystrad showed their Premiership credentials forcing the home side into long periods of defence. Both sides chopped and changed personnel giving run outs to everyone but considering this was the first run out for both sides some of the handling was excellent.  The final period saw the home side put some decent phases of play together running in one superb team try from deep rounded off by Asanji Mofor on his return from injury. There were also scores for Rhys Illes, Ashley Bissett and Amir Jiwa Walji.
