Wanderers get pre season win on the road
Glamorgan Wanderers RFC were welcomed by Stockport RUFC in a pre-season tour “Friday Night Lights” clash at Headlands Road on 28 August 2026.
Glamorgan Wanderers established control from the opening whistle, exposing gaps in a depleted Stockport squad missing several first-team regulars due to a pre-season commitment. The visitors’ explosive backline and physical pack clicked instantly and consistently in the 1st pre-season game of the 2026/27 season to cross for 10 tries over the 80 minutes.
Stockport fought to find a foothold in front of their home crowd. The hosts managed to claim two consolation scores—including a well-worked effort in the 1st half making it 7 – 17 but were challenged by the Wanderer’s defensive structure and set-piece power. Final score was 12 v 60 with 9 players crossing and the depth of the squad being shown with all getting some much-needed game time providing the coaching team with some selection headaches. A couple of injuries will need to be managed over the week.
The Wanderers cohesive offensive structures and wide-channel play proved decisive providing momentum heading into the start of the Septembers league campaign against Mountain Ash next Friday 7-30pm hoping to go one better than last year’s 2nd place in the WRU Championship East.
