Met overpower Wanderers in Mallett

Cardiff Met 45
Wanderers 20

On a bright evening in Llanharan the Wanderers bowed out of the Mallett Cup against a strong and slick Met side. The students began brightly establishing a lead early on from a well worked try and then an interception on their own 22 when the Wanderers were on the attack. A Jacob Symes penalty did get the scoreboard moving for the Ely side but the slick handling of the students eased further ahead with their third try making it 21-3.  The was some cheer for the travelling Massiv when Gruff John Morris crashed over for a try converted by Symes but the Met were well in control at the break 21-10.

The second half followed a similar pattern. The students increased their lead soon after the break and they eased further ahead with their 5th and 6th tries despite the best efforts of the Wanderers. Even with fresh legs on the field and a real battling effort led by captain Osian Phillips there was no mway back for the Championship side. As the dark of the night descended on the Dairy field there were two late consolation tries when Cameron Atkins crossed and Ed Thomas sliced through the defence after a neat offload from Symes.
Final score 45-20 and the Met are through to face Rumney in the final.
