New Era Begins at The Wanderers
Last week saw an historic event in senior rugby at the Wanderers. For the first time since the 1980s the club played two senior games on the ground side by side after the reinstatement of the training pitch as a playing pitch for senior rugby.
To round it off the club saw two wins as the 1st XV beat Mountain Ash and the Dev squad beat St Peters.
It is the first shoot in a recovery for this proud club as they look to rebuild its legacy. There are new faces at the club on a weekly basis, with youngsters and experienced players aspiring to be a part of a new player friendly environment.
The club famous for playing a part in the development of players and coaches like, Sam Warburton, Gruff Rees, Dan Fish, Josh Navidi, Cory Allen, Richard Hodges and Scott Andrews, are once again moving players in the right direction with Peter Lloyd, a true club stalwart, making his Premiership debut with Cardiff RFC over the weekend. Another destined for great things is youngster Jacob LaRoche a product of the Cardiff and Vale College(CAVC) CCS Rugby Academy who is now training every week with Pontypridd RFC. The players, coaches and the committee at Glamorgan Wanderers are proactive with the mindset of promoting opportunity’s rather than obstacles with any player looking to develop their skills in the Premiership. Both are very young in terms of their development but without question both are Premiership capable and the more time both are exposed to Premiership rugby levels the better it is for Glamorgan Wanderers. It’s a win win situation for the players and the Club.
The clubs coaching staff is growing with a Level 4 DOR and a Regional Pro with a great eye for the Game in the Attack coach position, two former Wanderers with Premiership experience at the club supporting the coaching team, honing their coaching skills for the long term. We’re looking at developing the filming of training sessions and games with the addition of two Performance analysis interns who will add a valuable resource to the coaching group.
The coaching staff are ably supporters by the Chair of Rugby, two extremely hard working team managers and a first class medical team of 5 to keep the playing group fit and well to perform.
Announcements on the Minis & Junior section will follow in due course.
