Wanderers 29 Llantrisant 36
“Moments of quality interspersed with plenty of schoolboy errors” commented head coach Matthew Bolton after the Wanderers slipped to another preseason defeat.
On a brightening afternoon at the Wanderers in a game of 3 sessions Llantrisant team spirit and composure with ball in hand carried the day. Both sides showed a willingness to run the ball early on and the home side were on top during the first session. Tries from Alex Luff and Loren Quick and 7 points from outside half Sean Cochlin gave the Wanderers a lead 17-7 after the first 20 minute session.
The second session saw Llantrisant start to find their feet. Good driving by their ever improving pack resulted in a try and with good use of the ball in hand further tries followed. The home side showed glimpses of quality when in attack and a third try from Gareth Price, after good driving from Alex Luff, closed the gap but the home side ended the second session behind at 24-28.
The last session of 40 minutes saw both sides ringing the changes and some of the play became more disjointed. The visitors looked the more composed when in attack and they regularly found the Wanderers defence having to scramble to prevent further scores. The home side started to chase the game and more and more errors came into their play. They did score a try from Charlie Johnson but Llantrisant rounded the scoring off with another try to make the final score 29-36.
