Match Report

Wrestlers lose to all-in-ones

Whitland 30

Wanderers 19

“For yesterday read any other Saturday. We start well, let the opposition regain control and leave us too much to do in the fight-back”. Said Hulk Hogan after the end of season defeat at Whitland.

“With some of those costumes I’m not sure where to look!” anonymous Whitland barmaid

“To rub salt into the wound they beat us in the boat race. I’m going on a recruitment drive before next season’s drinking starts” head coach Matthew Bolton.

“I think the ladies of Whitland agreed we won the fancy dress!” Henri Williams

On a gusty afternoon in West Wales the visitors began brightly. After a move of several phases Ed Doe cut back inside and showed great strength to force his way over. Ianto Griffiths converted the try 0-7. The home side then found their feet. Using the strong wind to pin the Wanderers back into their own half they pressurised the visitor’s defence. Moving the ball well amongst forwards and backs they created openings and two tries followed in quick succession 12-7. A penalty extended the lead and as Whitland controlled the game the Wanderers were left clutching at shadows. Two more tries came before half time and the home side went into the break at 27-7.

Despite the fact there was nothing for both sides to play for the game was keenly contested. With the wind on their backs in the second half the Wanderers started to fight back.  Whitland were reduced to 14 men for ten minutes after Luffy was used as a boot cleaning scraper and the visitors took advantage. Tries from Owen Marshall and Mike Stephens with a conversion by Griffiths gave the traveling support something to cheer but Whitland regained their composure and sealed the win with a late penalty allowing everyone to celebrate the end of the season and a chance to compare fancy dress outfits.
